13-week CBT programme is big hit with patients
Posted: Wed 20th February 2008 12.25PMThe Group Therapy Centre is the first mental health charity in the UK to develop and roll-out a ground-breaking 13-week Group Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) programme for mental health problems like depression and anxiety. CBT is widely recognised as the therapy of choice for such conditions and up to 16 patients a week can be treated.
Developed by cognitive behavioural therapists Paul Delderfield and Jim Neeson, the programme assumes no prior knowledge of CBT, and each week leads group members step-by-step through the basics, helping them to identify, understand and change unhelpful thought and behavioural patterns. More than 130 people have benefited from the programme so far and feedback from participants is overwhelmingly positive.
Access to the programme is via GP referral to Auckland Road Clinic, Cambridge, where patients will be assessed and shortlisted for referral to the Centre.
“I wasn’t sure if CBT would work…I was angry, depressed and very negative. Now it all seems to be a thing of the past.”
“A marvellous experience which I wish could be available for all. Also extremely good value.”
